Biography

Toni Annala obtained a PhD from the University of British Columbia in 2022. After completing their doctorate, they joined the University of Toronto as an Assistant Professor. During the summer of 2022, Toni was a postdoctoral researcher at Aalto University. They have also been a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and served as an L.E. Dickson Instructor at the University of Chicago. As an applied mathematician, Toni focuses on finding applications of topology in subjects like algebraic geometry, number theory, and physics. Recently, they collaborated with Ryomei Iwasa and Marc Hoyois to discover a significant connection between homotopy theory and algebraic geometry.
