Dr. Toni Erskine

Biography

Toni Erskine is a Professor in International Politics at the Department of International Relations, Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs at the Australian National University (ANU). She has recently been recognized as the recipient of the International Studies Association's 2024-25 Distinguished Scholar Award. Her research is located at the intersection of International Relations and moral political philosophy, focusing on the impact of artificial intelligence on organized violence and questions of moral responsibility. Erskine has held various prestigious positions including Academic Lead for the UN ESCAP/APRU project on AI and social good. She served a five-year term as Director of the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs and has published extensively on topics of ethics in war, moral agency, and international politics. Her recent works include articles in several prominent journals addressing the complexities of AI's role in conflict and moral realism in international relations. With a PhD from the University of Cambridge and degrees from the University of British Columbia and the University of Edinburgh, she has a solid academic background that informs her position as a leading voice in her field.
