Professor Dr. Toni Haastrup

Biography

Toni Haastrup is the Chair of Global Politics at the University of Manchester since September 2023. She holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Edinburgh, and her scholarly work focuses on the interplay of power hierarchies in global politics. Haastrup is known for her contributions to feminist research, particularly in relation to the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP). She received the 2022 Emma Goldman Award and the ISRF Mid-Career Fellowship for 2023-2024, recognizing her impact in the field. Additionally, she engages with governmental and international organizations to provide expertise on issues concerning Africa's international relations. Her research encompasses regional security institutions, feminist peace research, and the critique of gendered hierarchies in governance. Haastrup's academic qualifications include an MA in International Relations from the University of Cape Town and a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of California, Davis. She is an active member of several professional bodies, including serving as Chair of the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES) and Secretary of the British International Studies Association.
