Biography

Toni Schmader is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). With a PhD from the University of California-Santa Barbara obtained in 1999, her research focuses on the interplay of self and social identity, particularly the impact of social identity in the context of negative stereotypes. Schmader's work extends to implicit gender bias, stigma, social justice, social cognition, and intergroup emotions. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to various book chapters. In her role as Director of the Engendering Success in STEM Consortium, she is committed to developing effective interventions to counteract biases in academic and professional settings.
