Tony Kemp is a geologist and geochemist based in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Western Australia. He completed his PhD at the Australian National University in Canberra and has held various research positions in the UK, Japan, and USA before moving to UWA in 2011 as an ARC Future Fellow. His expertise lies in igneous and metamorphic petrology, isotope geochemistry, and geochronology. His research focuses on understanding the generation of continental crust and the evolution of the Earth's crust-mantle system, particularly through the study of ancient rock sequences and minerals. Recently, he has emphasized developing geochemical approaches to tracking the sources of metals and the processes that enriched the lithosphere, especially for critical minerals essential for the transition to carbon-free energy sources. He is an enthusiastic science communicator and actively collaborates with numerous industry and government partners. Currently, his role at UWA includes 50% research (including postgraduate supervision), 30% teaching (at undergraduate and MSc levels), and 20% service and engagement.
