Biography

Tony Paxton is a Senior Research Investigator in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London, where he has held a significant role since March 2022. He previously served as the Chair of Computational Materials Science at King's College London in the Department of Physics, where he was an Emeritus Professor. His primary research interests encompass the structure-property relations of metals and alloys, particularly focusing on electronic structure from a conceptual standpoint. He has been a pivotal investigator in large consortia involving academic and industrial partners, with notable projects including a study of hydrogen embrittlement funded by an EPSRC programme grant, which concluded in 2020. Among his prominent contributions is the DARE project, launched in September 2014, aimed at improving resource efficiency in alloy manufacturing with collaborators Fionn Dunne and David Dye. Additionally, he has been active in theoretical modeling of molecular processes at water surfaces. Recent research initiatives include a project on corrosion theory initiated in December 2017 and a new UKRI grant with Mark Rainforth from Sheffield that began in February 2021. He is also an author of the upcoming book 'Electrode Corrosion Physics' set to be published in 2024.
