Biography

Tony Vickery began his academic journey as a sound, set, and lighting designer in the University of Victoria's undergraduate program. Eventually, he switched to the Honours Theatre History program, earning his B.A. in Theatre History. He continued his studies at the University of Toronto, where he obtained his Master’s degree, followed by a doctorate from the University of Victoria. His research primarily focuses on Theatre History, with interests in the theories of commercial theatrical administration and finance, particularly pertaining to 19th and 20th century American and Canadian theatre, including spectacular theatre and melodrama. Vickery's published works have appeared in respected journals such as Theatre Survey, the International Journal of Arts Management, and Nineteenth Century Canadian Theatre Research. Throughout his academic career, he has been a proud member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 168 in Victoria.
