Biography

Tony Wyss-Coray is the D.H. Chen Distinguished Professor in Neurology at Stanford University. He directs the Phil Penny Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience, focusing on understanding brain aging and neurodegeneration, with an emphasis on age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. His research team has made significant discoveries regarding circulatory blood factors that affect brain structure and function, particularly how factors from young organisms can rejuvenate the brains of older individuals. Wyss-Coray's current studies utilize a combination of genetic, cell biology, and '-omics' approaches in model organisms including killifish and mice, as well as human subjects. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field, being named one of Time Magazine's 'The Health Care 50' in 2018. Wyss-Coray co-founded Alkahest Inc., a company dedicated to tackling neurodegeneration associated with Alzheimer's disease, and has received multiple prestigious awards including the NIH Director’s Pioneer Award and the Zenith Award from the Alzheimer’s Association. He has also served on the editorial board of the Journal Neuroinflammation and on the Medical Scientific Advisory Council of the Alzheimer’s Association for Northern California & Northern Nevada.
