Biography

Torben Toldam-Andersen is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen with expertise in horticultural sciences, specializing in fruit and berry production. He commenced his academic journey at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen in 1986, ultimately earning an MSc in Horticultural Sciences in 1991. His thesis focused on dormancy models for predicting flowering in trees and allergenic pollen distribution. Following his graduation, he undertook a PhD scholarship supervised by Professor Poul Hansen, with his dissertation centered on the physiological aspects of internal competition and seasonal changes in fruit composition, specifically black currant. After completing his PhD in 1995, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bonn, focusing on carbon balance in fruits. He returned to Copenhagen and assumed responsibility for the Pomological research and teaching at the Pometum in Taastrup, where he has concentrated on multiple areas, including fruit development, fruit quality, pomological genetic resources, and grape wine production. In addition to his research, he teaches courses such as 'Fruit Berry Crop Physiology Quality' and ‘Cool Climate Viticulture Enology’ and actively supervises students at the master's and bachelor's levels.
