Biography

Toshiko Takenaka is the Washington Research Foundation/W. Hunter Simpson Professor of Technology Law at the University of Washington School of Law. She joined the faculty in 1993 and teaches courses in Patent Law and Intellectual Property. Professor Takenaka received her Bachelor of Law degree from Seikei University in Tokyo, followed by an LL.M. in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Comparative Law in 1992 from the University of Washington. She has held various positions in patent prosecution and management at Texas Instruments Japan Ltd. and has been a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property in Munich. An active contributor to the field, she has published extensively on comparative patent law and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice. Furthermore, Professor Takenaka is involved in advising the Japanese government on intellectual property policy as part of the Vision Committee for Japan's Cabinet. She frequently participates in academic seminars and conferences, sharing her insights on issues of patent law and innovation.
