Dr. Tovi Grossman

Biography

Tovi Grossman is a professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, where he applies his expertise in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) to understand how emerging technologies can be used to enhance user experiences. His research has led to several commercial products widely used, including Autodesk Screencast and Autodesk Sketchbook Motion, which won Apple's 2016 iPad App of the Year. Dr. Grossman received his Ph.D. in HCI from the University of Toronto, after which he joined Autodesk Research as a Distinguished Research Scientist. Over his career, he has authored 180 peer-reviewed papers and holds 100 patents, receiving accolades such as the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in 2021 and the NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship in 2020. He has served in multiple prominent roles, including as Technical Program Co-Chair for the ACM CHI Conference, while continuing to actively collaborate with industry partners in Toronto's HCI research landscape. His current research interests span Intelligent User Interfaces, Human-Robot Interaction, and Mixed Reality Interaction, with an emphasis on innovative Input Techniques. As a leader in his field, he also mentors students and researchers, contributing to the development of the next generation of HCI scholars.
