Trac D. Tran is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. He has extensive experience in the field of digital signal processing, with research interests focused on sparse representation, sparse recovery, multi-rate systems, filter banks, transforms, wavelets, and applications in signal analysis, compression, processing, and communications. His pioneering research includes integer-coefficient transforms and pre-/post-filtering operators, which have been adopted as critical components in technologies such as Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 and JPEG XR, a leading international still-image compression standard. Tran co-directed the 33rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems in March 1999 in Baltimore, MD. He was a summer faculty research fellow at the Naval Air Warfare Center and has served as a regular consultant for the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Furthermore, he has contributed to various prestigious journals as an associate editor. His commitments extend to the IEEE Technical Committee on Signal Processing Theory and Methods and the IEEE Image, Video and Multidimensional Signal Processing Technical Committee. Tran's teaching excellence has been recognized with several awards, including the NSF CAREER Award and the William H. Huggins Excellence in Teaching Award. He holds a BS and MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, all in electrical engineering, and joined Johns Hopkins University in 1998.
