Dr. Tracey Lauriault

Biography

Tracey P. Lauriault is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University. She specializes in critical data studies and operates as a scholar concerned with open data, big data, and the implications of these areas for society. Her work includes research on open smart cities, data governance, data invisibilities, and the historical context of census data. Lauriault is actively engaged in funded research that explores aggregate greenhouse gas emissions tracking and various other projects aimed at enhancing access to historical data in Canada. She is also affiliated with several academic institutions and research centers, contributing to initiatives focused on data sovereignty and the ethical implications of data usage. Her teaching areas include Data Science Ethics and Critical Data Studies, where she engages students in the critical examination of data's role in society.
