Biography

Tracey L. Meares is the Walton Hale Hamilton Professor of Law and the Founding Director of the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School. She is a nationally recognized expert in policing and urban communities, with her research focusing on the public's perception of their relationship with legal authorities, including police, prosecutors, and judges. Meares teaches courses in criminal procedure, criminal law, and criminal justice reform, and has worked extensively with the federal government. She served on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Law and Justice and is a member of the National Research Council's standing committee. In 2014, President Obama appointed her to the Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Meares holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.S. in general engineering from the University of Illinois.
