Biography

Travis D. Fridgen began his academic career in chemistry at Trent University, where he concurrently pursued a degree in Science and a Bachelor of Education at Queen's University. He completed his Honors Thesis in the lab of Dr. J. Mark Parnis, focusing on organic and inorganic molecules in argon matrices. After finishing his education, he began his graduate studies in 1999, studying the spectroscopic characterization of matrix-isolated products from electron bombardment of organic species. Fridgen's postdoctoral research at the University of Waterloo, under Dr. Terry McMahon, further honed his expertise. Before joining Memorial University, he served as an Assistant Professor at Laurier University, where he characterized trapped gaseous ions in collaboration with Dr. Philippe Maitre at the Centre Laser Infrarouge d'Orsay in Paris, France. His research involves the structures, energetics, and reactions of gas-phase ions, and he leads the Fridgen Research Group focused on these areas.
