Dr. Trevor Coward

Biography

Trevor Coward is a Professor and Honorary Consultant in Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Rehabilitation at King's College London. With 30 years of experience in rehabilitating patients with facial and body prostheses, his research primarily focuses on the reconstruction of faces using innovative prostheses developed from novel technologies. His work has notably included the rehabilitation of children and young adults with congenital facial malformations, as well as adults who have undergone treatment for oral cancers and those who have suffered trauma to the face and neck. Professor Coward's research interests encompass translational research adapted for use within the National Health Service, with a strong emphasis on the application of digital technologies in the planning and provision of facial prostheses. This includes the integration of CT, MRI, and laser scan data with CAD/CAM techniques to fabricate anatomical facial and body parts from silicone. He has also investigated computerized colour formulation and spectrophotometry to enhance the aesthetic appearance of prostheses. His innovative approaches have recently led to government and commercial funding for projects developing 3D-printed prostheses with color-matched materials for missing facial and bodily parts. Professor Coward's extensive published work in peer-reviewed journals has established him as a leading figure in the field of maxillofacial prosthetics, contributing to advancements utilized globally in clinical practices.
