Biography

Professor Darrell is a member of the Computer Science Division at the University of California, Berkeley. His research group develops algorithms that enable visual recognition across various platforms and applications. His areas of interest include computer vision, machine learning, computer graphics, and perception-based human-computer interfaces. Professor Darrell was part of the faculty at the MIT Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department from 1999 to 2008, where he directed the Vision Interface Group. Prior to joining MIT, he was a research staff member at Interval Research Corporation from 1996 to 1999. He obtained his S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT in 1992 and 1996, respectively, after completing his B.S.E. degree in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania in 1988. His career in computer vision began during his undergraduate studies as a researcher in Ruzena Bajcsy’s GRASP lab.
