Biography

Trevor Evans is a linguist whose research focuses on ancient languages and the documentary texts of the Greek and Latin periods. He has a particular interest in the Septuagint, which is the Greek translation of the Old Testament, and the unique documentary texts that offer insights into the lives of ancient peoples. His main areas of research supervision include Greek and Latin documentary texts, numerical and lexical analysis of these ancient languages, and their lexicography. Trevor has produced significant works on various aspects of documentary texts, including the Zenon Archive and the syntax of the Septuagint. He completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honours at the University of New England in 1992 and earned his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1998. His early career involved various roles at Macquarie University, where he was promoted through the ranks to Associate Professor in 2016. He serves as the Director of the Macquarie Ancient Languages School, coordinating ancient-language teaching and overseeing the curriculum for ancient Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. In 2021, Trevor was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities, recognizing his contributions to the field.
