Biography

Trevor Lantz is a Professor in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. His research primarily focuses on landscape ecology, plant ecology, global change ecology, permafrost science, remote sensing, and community-based monitoring. Lantz employs both local knowledge and observational and experimental approaches to understand the impacts of global change on ecocultural landscapes in western North America. His current research projects engage with Gwitchin and Inuvialuit communities in the Western Arctic, examining the feedbacks of climate change, warming permafrost, disturbance, and vegetation change on the abundance of country foods. Lantz has been actively involved in research and teaching since he joined the university as an Assistant Professor in July 2009, and he is known for integrating traditional ecological knowledge with scientific methods to address pressing environmental issues.
