Trevor M. Nolan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 2013 and completed his Ph.D. in 2018. Nolan's research focuses on the molecular underpinnings of the transition from cell proliferation to differentiation during organ development in multicellular organisms. His lab investigates how cells coordinate developmental programs in response to dynamic challenges in complex environments. A particular emphasis is placed on how cell division and growth signals can influence developmental outcomes, with implications for understanding cancer and developmental anomalies. Using advanced techniques such as single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics, the Nolan lab aims to provide mechanistic insights that facilitate the engineering of plant root structures and functions. In 2024, he will take on the role of Assistant Professor at Caltech after serving as a Visiting Associate.
