Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Trevor Sorrells. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Trevor Sorrells received a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University in 2009. He completed his PhD in the lab of Alexander Johnson at the University of California, San Francisco, where he pioneered molecular biological genomic approaches in non-model yeast species to understand transcriptional regulatory networks and their evolution. His work has provided a mechanistic understanding of network architecture and molecular function and how they dictate changes in biological systems over time. As a postdoctoral fellow in Leslie Vosshall's lab at Rockefeller University, Trevor discovered a persistent behavioral state in the mosquito Aedes aegypti that allows it to sustain its pursuit of humans over time, using optogenetics to study the brain of an important disease vector. Currently, Sorrells' lab investigates the neural circuits that control the ability of mosquitoes to bite humans and how these behaviors have evolved from non-biting ancestors.
GRE is optional for PhD applicants. TOEFL speaking scores below 26 or IELTS speaking below 7.5 may require summer English training.
