Biography

Tripta Velamoor is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Doctoral Capstone Coordinator in the Department of Occupational Therapy at New York University. With over 22 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist, she has worked primarily in school settings, supporting students with disabilities from preschool through high school. Her research interests focus on the impact of occupational therapy on population health, specifically chronic disease prevention and health promotion interventions that address complex systemic social determinants of health. Velamoor earned her Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy from NYU in 2002 and a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from Boston University in 2022. Prior to joining NYU, she served as a Clinical Instructor and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator at Iona University, where she developed guidelines for structuring fieldwork experiences in occupational therapy education. Velamoor is also a certified Assistive Technology Practitioner through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) and serves as the Secretary of the New York State Occupational Therapy Association. She co-founded Ideal Home Innovations Inc., which helps clients with diverse needs live safely and independently in their home environments. Velamoor teaches foundational courses in the occupational therapy program, focusing on the profession's historical and philosophical development, as well as current issues affecting practice.
