Biography

Trisha Scribbans obtained a Diploma in Advanced Massage Therapy from Kiné-Concept Institute Maritimes and practiced as a Registered Massage Therapist for ten years. She earned an Honours Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences in Athletic Therapy from Sheridan College. Scribbans investigated manual skill acquisition in surgical residents during her Master’s in Anatomical Sciences at Queen’s University, gaining extensive experience in anatomical education and cadaveric-based teaching. She pursued her Doctoral degree in Kinesiology Health Studies (Exercise Physiology) at Queen’s University, examining molecular responses to acute exercise and the mechanisms underlying anatomical and physiological adaptations to exercise training in skeletal muscle. Her graduate training included work as an Athletic Massage Therapist, providing her with real-world knowledge regarding the challenges in preventing and rehabilitating shoulder disorders. This practical experience, alongside her research expertise, has cultivated a deep appreciation for the interaction between contractile and non-contractile tissues and their relationships with anatomical structures and physiology. Scribbans’ research focuses on understanding neuromuscular mechanisms that control force production and movement in the upper extremity, particularly emphasizing the role of scapular position in shoulder pathology. She is interested in identifying novel treatment and prevention strategies to reduce the incidence and duration of shoulder pathologies and in the individual responses to rehabilitative exercise strategies concerning skeletal and neurological adaptations.
