Biography

Tristan Salles is an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, specializing in the integration of quantitative models to explore planetary surfaces and their evolution. He holds a BSc and MEng in Marine Engineering from École Centrale, along with an MSc in Physical Oceanography from Aix-Marseille University. Salles completed his PhD in Marine Geoscience at Bordeaux University in collaboration with IFP Energies Nouvelles in 2006. Since joining the University of Sydney in 2015, he has focused on Earth surface processes, integrating insights from geomorphology, stratigraphy, and geodynamics. His research seeks to understand how landscapes evolve over geological timescales, shaping the carbon cycle and influencing biodiversity. Salles is particularly interested in Earth Surface Dynamics and Sediment Transport. He aims to tackle complexity in systems and develop next-generation modeling tools that unify fragmented knowledge across disciplines. In addition to his research, he emphasizes creating engaging and inclusive learning environments for students in geoscience, supervising a variety of students through their degrees.
