Biography

Trudie Knijn graduated in sociology from the University of Tilburg and obtained her PhD in Cultural Psychology at Radboud University Nijmegen. Her doctoral research focused on the concept of 'Motherhood Duty Self-Development.' Since 1985, she has been a part of Utrecht University, rising to the rank of full professor in Interdisciplinary Social Science in 2003. Currently, she heads the Centre for Social Policy Intervention Studies (SOPINS) and serves as a visiting professor at the Centre for Social Development Africa at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Her research interests encompass themes such as citizenship, solidarity, and justice within the contexts of care, welfare, and family dynamics. She has led several cross-national studies on justice and fairness, including projects under the Horizon2020 framework. Furthermore, she has been involved in significant research initiatives focusing on social risks and family interventions, actively engaging master's students in these projects. Her extensive contributions to the academic community include her leadership in various research initiatives and her involvement with ESPAnet from 2007 to 2014.
