Biography

Vo-Van is Emeritus Professor of Physics at Concordia University. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Toronto. He has a distinguished career, focusing on the study of the optical properties of thin films and inhomogeneous media, as well as the design and characterization of advanced materials and their applications. He founded the Thin Film Research Group at Université de Moncton in 1984, which is internationally recognized. Over 40 graduate students have completed their studies under his supervision, leading to the creation of several spin-off companies. His current research interests include nanostructured materials and devices, particularly in sensing and photonics applications. Vo-Van has actively promoted knowledge transfer to society and has served on several boards for technology transfer organizations across various fields. He has collaborated with numerous universities in developing countries and has worked extensively with the Canadian International Development Agency. He was also involved in promoting collaboration between educational institutions in Canada and Vietnam.
