Dr. Tsering Dolkar Watermeyer’s journey in social work began with work in international health and poverty alleviation projects in rural Tibet. As a research associate and program evaluator, she has contributed to multilateral development projects and immigrant aid organizations funded by the World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, and Public Health Agency Canada. With more than 14 years of experience as a registered social worker, Dr. Watermeyer has extensive clinical work experience in both acute care and outpatient programs, notably in HIV and Addictions & Mental Health. In her role as a Social Work Practice Educator at Providence Health Care, she developed individualized learning plans and provided case conceptualization, supervision, and mentorship to registered social workers in clinical settings. Prior to her position at Memorial University, she taught social work courses at the University of British Columbia and a community college. Her academic research interests merge transdisciplinary learnings from social sciences with the theorizing of social work education and professional practice. Dr. Watermeyer is currently involved in various Canadian and international research initiatives and serves as a peer reviewer for social work and interdisciplinary journals. Her areas of interest broadly encompass indigenous groups, indigenization, diaspora studies, refugee and immigrant resettlement, Addictions & Mental Health, and the development of decolonial Social Work praxis.
