Dr. Tuan Nguyen

Biography

Tuan Nguyen is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Population Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) and a Distinguished Professor of Predictive Medicine at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He has made significant contributions to osteoporosis research and has published over 350 articles, resulting in approximately 38,000 citations. His research focuses on the genetic and environmental factors influencing osteoporosis risk. Tuan has developed several innovative tools, including BONEcheck™, a personalized risk assessment for osteoporosis and a genomic signature called the Osteogenomic Profile to predict fracture risk. He has extensive experience in supervising PhD candidates and has successfully mentored over 15 PhD students. His professional activities include serving as an associate editor for multiple journals related to osteoporosis and musculoskeletal disease. He has also led research projects internationally, including the Vietnam Osteoporosis Study (VOS), which examines genetic and environmental factors associated with bone health across diverse populations. Tuan's work has been recognized with numerous awards, including being appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales and receiving the UTS Chancellor's Medal for Exceptional Research. He is actively involved in promoting research capacity in Asia, conducting workshops in Thailand and Vietnam, and has established the Bone Muscle Research Laboratory at Ton Duc Thang University in Vietnam for further studies in bone and muscle health.
