Tugrul Doruk is a staff scientist at the µNordic Single Cell Hub (µNiSCH). His research primarily focuses on infection biology and transcriptome analysis. Doruk holds a bachelor's degree in Biology, a Master’s degree, and a PhD in Molecular Biology. He has a background in working with bacterial metabolism using standard molecular biology techniques. His postdoctoral studies at Umeå University from 2012 to 2014 contributed to the development of high-throughput screening methods for novel antimicrobials that inhibit secretion systems in pathogenic bacteria. From 2014 to 2018, he participated in projects related to antimicrobial activity, bacterial genetics, enzyme production, and metabolic engineering with gene deletions. He also served as an assistant professor at Ondokuz Mayis University from 2018 to 2022, advising four master's theses focused on gene deletion, enzyme production, and target identification of small inhibitors. During this time, he was responsible for courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In 2022, he returned to Umeå University for postdoctoral research on bacterial RNA enrichment in infected tissues and the generation of droplet microcapsules using microfluidic systems. He started working as a staff scientist at µNiSCH in October 2024 and is a group member of Kemal Avican's Lab, aiming to advance single-cell biology at Umeå University.
Requirements are standard for Master's programs across Social Sciences and Humanities at Umeå. English 6 proficiency is the general rule.
