Biography

Tyler Dick holds B.S. (1999) in Civil Engineering from the University of Manitoba, an M.S. (2001), and a Ph.D. (2019) in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. He previously served as a research associate professor and lecturer, as well as a principal research engineer at the Rail Transportation Engineering Center (RailTEC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During his career, Dick spent 11 years as a railway design engineer at HDR Engineering, where he achieved the title of professional associate, recognized for his expertise in railway yard terminal design. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas and is actively involved in several committees, including TRB, ASCE, AREMA, and INFORMS Railway Application Section. Dick chairs the TRB Joint Subcommittee on Railway Capacity Performance and serves as the secretary for the AREMA Committee 16 on the Economics of Railway Engineering & Operations. He is also on the board of the International Association of Railway Operations Research.
