Dr. Tyler Jacks is the David H. Koch Professor in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he directs the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. His research is focused on developing new methods for the construction and characterization of genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) of human cancer. These models have enabled significant advancements in the burgeoning area of tumor immunology, particularly in understanding the interactions between the immune system and cancer. His group has created GEMMs with both constitutive and conditional mutations in tumor suppressor genes, oncogenes, and genes involved in oxidative stress and DNA repair, which are used to examine the mechanisms of tumor initiation and progression. Dr. Jacks’ work aims to uncover the molecular and genetic biochemical relationships that underlie human diseases and develop tools to study responses to chemotherapy, as well as to explore methods for the molecular imaging of early cancer detection.
