Biography

Tyler McCardell, MD, PHP, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Penn Medicine. He began his career in EMS as a volunteer EMT during his undergraduate studies at Duquesne University and went on to obtain advanced EMT certification. Following his medical education at Temple University, he served as the EMS Chief for the Wakefield Ambulance and played a crucial role in expanding the role of Intermediate Advanced Life Support care in rural Lancaster County. He is a nationally certified EMS educator, having taught Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and instructor-level courses to hundreds of students. After graduating from medical school, Tyler moved to Pittsburgh and joined the Peebles District Volunteer Fire Company, where he became a Firefighter-I and Vehicle Rescue Technician. As an emergency medicine resident at Allegheny General Hospital, he was selected as Chief Resident and worked extensively with AHN LifeFlight as an Assistant Medical Director. In his free time, Tyler enjoys traveling to national parks and going on trips to the mountains with his wife, Megan, and their chocolate lab, Koda.
