Biography

Tynchtyk Amatov studied chemistry at Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he obtained both BSc and MSc degrees. He subsequently pursued his PhD studies at Charles University in Prague and the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry in Prague. Amatov has developed radical methodologies for synthesizing complex natural products. He has worked in Germany at LMU Munich in the field of origin-of-life research, collaborating with Hendrik Zipse to unveil unique homolytic bond activation mechanisms related to amide bond geometry distortion. Before joining NYU Abu Dhabi, Amatov was affiliated with the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, working with Benjamin List in the area of asymmetric organocatalysis. At NYU Abu Dhabi, his research focuses broadly on catalysis, aiming to discover and develop new sustainable methods and processes that enable molecular technology applications in natural product synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology.
