Biography

Tyrone Porter is a Professor and Department Chair at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He holds the Donald J. Douglass Centennial Professorship and is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. His research interests encompass drug discovery, delivery, imaging, and image-guided interventions, with a strong focus on neuroengineering, biosensors, and instrumentation. Porter’s lab specifically investigates ultrasound technologies and their applications in diagnostic and therapeutic contexts, particularly in the realm of drug delivery. A significant aspect of his research aims to push ultrasound technology into new and exciting directions, including immunomodulation and the reversible opening of the blood-brain barrier. He has previously served as an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Boston University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University.
