Biography

Tyrone Porter is a Professor and Department Chair at the University of Texas at Austin, holding the Donald J. Douglass Centennial Professorship in the Engineering Department. He is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and a member of several professional societies, including the Acoustical Society of America, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Controlled Release Society, and the National Society of Black Engineers. He earned his Ph.D. in bioengineering from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Prairie View A&M University. Prior to his current position, he worked as an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Boston University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in biomedical engineering at the University of Cincinnati. His research interests include image-guided drug delivery and ultrasound acoustics, focusing on the development of ultrasound technologies and engineered vesicles for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, aiming to explore new directions in immunomodulation and the reversible opening of the blood-brain barrier.
