Biography

Uday Shanbhag’s research focuses on analysis algorithmic resolution optimization equilibrium problems with applications in energy systems and statistical learning. He previously held the Gary Sheila Chaired Professorship in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, where he arrived in Fall 2012. Prior to this, he was an assistant professor from 2006 to 2012 in the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was subsequently tenured as an associate professor. His research involves developing analytical computational tools for optimization, variational, and game-theoretic problems, which often grapple with issues of complicated nonsmoothness, nonconvexity, and stochasticity. These tools find applicability in the design and operation of power systems and markets, with recent work impacting the field of statistical learning. Uday has served on the editorial boards of prominent journals including the Journal of Optimization and Computational Optimization and Applications, as well as Optimization Letters.
