Biography

Ueli Staeger holds a PhD in International Relations/Political Science from the Geneva Graduate Institute. He has studied at the University of Geneva, SOAS University of London, and the College of Europe. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, within the Programme Group: Political Economy and Transnational Governance. Staeger's research agenda focuses broadly on how international organizations (IOs) shape security provision, funding, reforms, and the geopolitics of the African Union. His work particularly examines the mobilization of resources in multilateral organizations and its effects on their executive bodies. He also investigates the European Union's foreign policy towards Africa, postcolonial issues in EU-Africa relations, and the role of small states in multilateral politics. With over 200 interviews conducted with diplomats and experts, his research has been published in several respected journals including African Affairs and West European Politics. Furthermore, he functions as a consultant for public organizations and civil society in matters regarding multilateralism and IO funding.
