Biography

Ulises Navarro Aguiar is a Senior Lecturer at HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design. His scholarly work explores questions related to design in social and economic life, crossing disciplinary boundaries between design studies, organization studies, and STS-infused economic sociology. His research investigates the growing entanglement of design practice with the cultures of financialization and the ways in which design labor is valued and managed. Through his line of inquiry, he critically analyzes the current order of things and articulates alternatives to understand modern fantasies of innovation. He has published extensively in journals such as Valuation Studies, Journal of Cultural Economy, and Journal of Product Innovation Management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Tecnológico de Monterrey, a Master’s in Design Management from the University of Salford, and a Doctorate in Organization Studies from the University of Gothenburg, funded through a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship. His research is deeply committed to addressing economic inequalities and ecological challenges through innovative design practices.
