Dr. Ulrike Mende

Biography

Ulrike Mende, MD, FAHA, is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at Brown University, where she has cultivated a career as a prominent independent scientist and Principal Investigator in the field of cardiovascular research. Educated at the University of Hamburg in Germany, Dr. Mende completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School's Brigham and Women's Hospital. Her research specializes in pharmacology, cell signaling, and molecular cardiology, particularly the regulation of cardiac growth and contractile function through G protein-mediated signaling pathways. She has developed innovative models for studying the interactions between cardiac myocytes and fibroblasts, focusing on their contributions to cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Dr. Mende's work is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and the American Heart Association (AHA), and she has a long-standing role as a mentor and advisor for postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty.
