Professor Umar Ruhi received his PhD in Information Systems Management Science from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. He also earned an MBA with dual concentrations in E-business and Strategic Knowledge Management from McMaster University and a BSc in Software Engineering from the University of Toronto. At Telfer, Professor Ruhi teaches undergraduate (BCom) and graduate (MSc, MBA, EMBA) courses in Information Systems, Digital Enterprise Strategy, and Cybersecurity Management. He teaches interdisciplinary MSc and PhD programs in Digital Transformation and Innovation, integrating themes related to business strategy and technology applications. His research interests lie at the intersection of Information Systems and Knowledge Management, exploring contemporary information communication technologies (ICTs) in human, organizational, and social contexts. His current research includes Consumer Health Informatics, Human–AI Collaboration, AI Governance, and Digital Disinformation. Professor Ruhi has received recognition for his work through commercial patents and awards at conferences. He was awarded for his PhD dissertation on online communities by the German Society for Online Research in 2012. In addition to his research, he is actively involved in pedagogical research related to Learning Analytics and Generative AI as part of the Ian Telfer Teaching Fellowship.
