Biography

Ümit V. Çatalyürek is a Professor in the School of Computational Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He previously served as the Vice Chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics and held a professorship in the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering at Ohio State University. He earned his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees in Computer Engineering and Information Science from Bilkent University, Turkey, in 2000, 1994, and 1992, respectively. Prof. Çatalyürek is the Editor-in-Chief of Parallel Computing and has served on the editorial boards of notable journals such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Computing and SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing. He is also active on several program and organizing committees for international conferences. He is a recipient of the NSF CAREER award and has been the principal investigator of awards from the Department of Energy, National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation. His research focuses on High-Performance Computing, Combinatorial Scientific Computing, and Biomedical Informatics.
