Dr. Umit Tapan

Biography

Dr. Umit Tapan is an Assistant Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Hematology and Medical Oncology. His clinical interests focus on non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, mesothelioma, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. Dr. Tapan's research interests include circulating tumor DNA, gut microbiome, cancer immunotherapy, and racial disparities in cancer care outcomes. He completed his medical degree at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey, and furthered his education with a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Boston University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow. With a commitment to improving access to state-of-the-art testing and innovative treatments, Dr. Tapan actively works towards reducing disparities in lung cancer care and enhancing understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds within the healthcare system. He is a member of the National Thoracic Cancer Clinical Trial Working Group, focusing on increasing enrollment of diverse patient populations in clinical studies. His dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare highlights his efforts to provide exceptional care and optimize cancer treatment access for all patients.
