Dr. Una Mcilvenna

Biography

Una McIlvenna is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow for the period of 2023-2027 and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at the Australian National University. Her research interests lie in the fields of early modern cultural and literary history, particularly examining the tradition of singing news. Her Future Fellowship project, 'Singing News: Ballads News Media Europe Australia, 1550-1920,' investigates how ballads served as a primary medium for disseminating information about newsworthy events. The project involves unearthing, studying, and recording songs in English, French, Dutch, German, and Italian from the mid-16th to the early 20th century.
