Biography

Urbashi Mitra received a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1987 and 1989, respectively. She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1994. Her early career included a position as Member Technical Staff at Bellcore, followed by academic roles at The Ohio State University, where she progressed to Associate Professor. In 2001, she joined the University of Southern California, where she was promoted to Full Professor in 2005. Her research focuses on communication theory, information theory, and signal processing, with significant contributions to wireless communication systems. Mitra is recognized for her work in joint communication and control systems, including applications in wireless body area networks and cognitive radio. She is involved with several academic societies and has received numerous awards for her contributions to engineering and education.
