Biography

Urbashi Mitra received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1987 and 1989 respectively. In 1994, she earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. Dr. Mitra began her career at Bellcore in Red Bank, New Jersey, before joining The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. She became an Associate Professor in 2000 and joined the University of Southern California in 2001, where she was promoted to Full Professor in 2005. She holds the Gordon S. Marshall Chair in Engineering and has served as Dean's Professor of Electrical Engineering. Her research interests include communication theory, information theory, and signal processing, with early work centered around wireless communication systems. Her recent projects involve joint communication, control, and sensing problems, particularly in mobile health and networked systems. She has published extensively and received numerous accolades for her contributions to the field.
