Biography

Uri Manor received his Ph.D. in Cellular, Molecular, Developmental Biology and Biophysics from the Johns Hopkins University-NIH Graduate Partnership Program, where he conducted postdoctoral work in the Lippincott-Schwartz lab at NIH. He joined the Salk Institute for Biological Studies as the Director of the Waitt Advanced Biophotonics Core in 2016 and was a recipient of the Chan-Zuckerberg Imaging Scientist Award. In 2023, he joined the faculty at the University of California, San Diego as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Goeddel Family Technology Sandbox. His research focuses on understanding the dynamic behavior of cells and subcellular structures, particularly in the context of diseases such as neurodegeneration, cancer, and hearing loss. Through the use of interdisciplinary approaches including advanced computational molecular tools and microscopy, genetic viral tools, deep learning methods, and transgenic animal models, his lab aims to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop innovative diagnostic methods for clinical applications.
