Biography

Uri Shalev received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Tel Aviv University and completed postdoctoral training under Dr. Yavin Shaham at the National Institute on Drug Abuse/National Institutes of Health in 2002. He later led a behavioral laboratory at D-Pharm Ltd., Rehovot, Israel, and was appointed as a senior lecturer at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo. In 2004, he joined the Department of Psychology and the Center for Studies in Behavioral Neurobiology at Concordia University, where he held the Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Drug Abuse (Tier II) from 2004 to 2015. His research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying relapse in substance use disorders, utilizing animal models to investigate stress and drug-associated cues that trigger relapse. His work involves various techniques such as immunohistochemistry and neuropharmacology to manipulate brain activity. Shalev actively mentors graduate students in the MA and PhD programs, seeking enthusiastic candidates to join his research team.
