Biography

Uros Seljak joined the Berkeley faculty in 2008 and is also jointly appointed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his B.S. in 1989 and M.S. in 1991 from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, followed by a Ph.D. from MIT in 1995. His early career include a Smithsonian Fellowship at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics from 1995 to 1998, and he has served on the faculties of Princeton University, ICTP in Trieste, and Zurich University. Seljak has been recognized with several prestigious awards including the David and Lucile Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering (2000), an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship (2001), the Helen B. Warner Award from the American Astronomical Society (2001), and the NSF CAREER Award (2002). His research interests lie primarily in theoretical cosmology, focusing on the fundamental properties of the universe as inferred from cosmological observations. His work has delved into the standard cosmological model and its implications, exploring concepts like dark energy and the accelerated expansion of the universe. Seljak is actively involved in projects concerning weak lensing, galaxy clustering, and cosmic microwave background anisotropies, aiming to deepen the understanding of cosmic structure and its evolution over time.
