Biography

Urs Gasser is a professor of Public Policy, Governance, and Innovative Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research focuses on the intersections of innovative technologies and society, particularly the social and regulatory implications of artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and quantum technologies. Gasser has spearheaded various initiatives at TUM, including the TUM Think Tank, TUM Generative AI Task Force, and TUM Quantum Social Lab. He has also held significant roles advising international organizations such as the OECD, UNICEF, and UNESCO, and contributes to policy discussions at the World Economic Forum. Gasser is a member of the National Academies of Sciences Working Group on Generative AI and chairs an International Policy Advisory Panel on AI Governance for the Kingdom of Thailand. His previous positions include Executive Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and a professor of practice at Harvard Law School. He has been a visiting professor at multiple institutions, including the University of Zurich and KEIO University in Japan.
