Dr. Ute Vollmer Conna

Biography

Ute Vollmer-Conna is an Associate Professor in the Psychiatry department at the University of New South Wales, Australia. She has an extensive background in psychology with a focus on learning behavior, neuropsychology, and statistics, complemented by her expertise in laboratory immunology. Ute holds a doctorate in Psychoneuroimmunology, a cross-disciplinary field that studies the interactions between the nervous system and the immune system. She is recognized internationally as a leader in multidisciplinary research, particularly in examining the acute sickness response to common infections and the post-infective syndromes such as chronic fatigue and depression. Her research has evolved towards understanding the functional connections that maintain homeostasis and integrity of the body, with a specific focus on the role of the autonomic nervous system in health and wellbeing. Ute has established the Human Autonomic Laboratory, which provides a platform for exploring the diverse roles of the autonomic nervous system in modulating immune responses and supporting both physical and mental health.
